My work combines salvaged sign letters/objects
with images of slightly demented cats and dogs in rebus-like
combinations.
I studied fine art at U.C. Berkeley in the mid 70's but
fearful of starving to death, I transferred to Art Center College
of Design in Pasadena, CA where I graduated in 1980. I have spent
the last 25 years working at advertising agencies in New York,
Tokyo, and currently, Chicago. My career as an art director has
been filled with interesting experiences, people and ideas, along
with typography, design and humor, all of which play a role in
my work.
Just 6 years ago I took up painting again at the age of 42
My current style flourished when I purchased a box of old sign
letters with peeling paint. I laid down a D and G and sketched
a curled up dog for the 'O'. From there a million ideas came
to me.
Since 2002 I've participated in 3 to 4 juried art shows per
year, as time permits (I still work full time as a Creative Director
in Chicago). I also have a steady stream of commissions for pet
portraits.
In addition to summer shows, my work is also available at the
BAS Gallery in Naperville, IL. |
